Liang Foo Kuan has been in the F&B industry for 30 years. His passion for good, quality food was inspired by his parents, who ran a successful coffee shop that served chicken rice, mixed rice and other dishes. Liang credits his parents for instilling in him the core ideas that form the bedrock of Big Onion’s company culture today. Liang believes in not chasing the dollar sign when growing a business. Instead, he prefers to grow the company organically to meet the demands of their customers, and to provide a better work environment for their employees.
Incorporated in 2010, Big Onion Food Caterer, better known as Big Onion, is one of the few ISO 22000:2018 & Halal Certified Caterers with the capacity to serve up to 5,000 guests in this region.
During the Covid-19 crisis, Liang embraced change and sought ways to evolve and grow, not only by way of creativity and innovation but also digitally and logistically. Liang will be sharing insights on what will be the new game for the catering industry and how caterers can survive through this new norm on HAPA TV.

Deepak Ohri is a name that has become synonymous across the globe with ‘Luxury Experience’. As the CEO of lebua Hotels and Resorts, Deepak is recognized globally as a visionary hospitality industry leader and luxury marketer. Deepak has transformed lebua Hotels and Resorts into a global luxury brand in just 14 years. He joined lebua at its inception in 2003 and has brought the vision of the brand to reality, expanding it across four continents. Under the lebua banner are several of the world’s finest five-star hotels and restaurants including two Michelin-starred restaurants in Bangkok.
Today, lebua operates a distinctive family of hotels, restaurants and bars, including one of Bangkok’s finest luxury hotels, Tower Club at lebua, and luxury resorts in Lucknow and Jim Corbett National Park, India and Rotorua, New Zealand. HAPA TV captivates the audience through highly engaging, entertaining and sometimes controversial materials featuring series of interviews, best operational practices, behind the scenes and inspiring stories of extraordinary individuals and organisations that overcame impossible challenges and fears amidst the new normal.
Our FIRST featured guest is none other than Lyn Siew, an entrepreneur and food blogger based in Kuala Lumpur who lived and worked across 8 countries before returning home to Malaysia. She’s the dynamic young woman behind the restaurants, Ruyi & Lyn, YU and Monte Carlo (located at Bangsar Shopping Centre and Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur) which is part of the Oriental group, a chain of Chinese Restaurants in Malaysia.

Recognised establishments have shown commitment towards guests and employees’ health, safety and comfort through strict implementation of sustainable and effective practices by well-trained cleaning and housekeeping staff. Recognition is also given to establishments who have introduced contactless procedures throughout their customer journey in an effort to minimise contact with people and surfaces. In short, a culture of Safety and Hygiene Excellence.
Apart from the establishment recognition programme, HAPA CARES will also present products, services and solutions which are holistic yet practical and which will conform to the new norm in safety and hygiene standards.
